An ethic of resistance helps Black women connect to their spiritual health, move from passive receiver to active resister of negative messages, and break the generational silence to demystify health and sexuality and integrate it into a lifestyle of wholeness. My hope is to improve the health outcomes of African American women by improving the health messages.

Identifying Outcomes from Integrative Medicine Practices with African American Women Living with Chronic Disease: A systematic literature review— A Power Point Document

This study will review the literature to answer the question:  What is currently known about the use and efficacy of integrative medicines with African American women living with chronic disease? This review will focus on all integrative medicine forms including meditation (MBI), yoga, and acupuncture because of the expected limited research on this topic. The narrative will seek to summarize current wellness trends, suggest possibilities for future wellness practices, and offer a source of collected data to use to inform the public.

We found marked racial and ethnic differences in the use of prayer and other spiritual practices for health reasons. Greater proportions of African Americans and Hispanic Americans than European Americans reported prayer for health reasons.
